Dedicated Hosting Defined

When we speak of web hosting servers, there are 3 main kinds - shared website hosting servers, VPS (private virtual web hosting servers) and dedicated hosting servers. Shared web hosting servers accommodate multiple clients and thus the resources per user account are restricted, virtual private server accounts give you more configuration independence, but also affect other virtual private web hosting servers on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers give you the autonomy to perform everything you want without messing with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated hosting server?

Dedicated servers are traditionally much more high-priced than shared hosting web servers or virtual private web hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The reply is rather simple. If your corporation has a high resource-devouring web site, or just has very specific web server architecture requirements, the wisest option is a dedicated server. For someone who is ready to invest in security and dependability, the higher price is not an issue. You are granted root access and can use 100% of the server's resources without anyone else using these resources and messing with your web sites.

Hardware specs

Most web hosting firms, including us at HostPapaya, offer different hardware architectures you can pick from based on your requirements. The configurations offer different varieties of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM and hard disk drive sizes and different traffic allowances. You can choose a Control Panel, which is a convenient interface if you wish to use the server for web hosting purposes solely and prefer not to resort to an SSH console for all the modifications you will be making. We offer 3 kinds of hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The hosting Control Panel of your choice

If you are a confident Linux OS user (our dedicated web hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could administer your dedicated server via an SSH connection exclusively. That, though, could be awkward, particularly if you choose to give root-level access to somebody else who has less technical knowledge than yourself. That is why having Control Panel software installed is a great idea. The Hepsia Control Panel GUI that we offer does not offer full root-level access and is chiefly suitable for someone who runs plenty of websites that swallow plenty of resources, but prefers to administer the web pages, databases and email aliases using an intuitive web hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, grant root-level access and have three levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting plans rather than using the dedicated web hosting server only for yourself, you should choose one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated hosting server and of backing it up. In case of a predicament with your dedicated server, such as an unresponsive Apache or a downtime, it is useful to have some sort of monitoring platform enabled. Here at HostPapaya the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated hosting server as well. Backups are also an extra option - the web hosting supplier offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could pick a type of RAID that would allow you to keep the same data on 2 hard disks as a precaution in the event of a disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted access erases something unintentionally.
